History of Wat Mai Amatarot
Wat Mai Amatarot is an ancient private temple located at no. 132, Samsen Road, Ban Bang Khunphrom Sub-distrcit, Phra Nakhon Distrcit, Bangkok.
According to its history, this temple was built late in the reign of King Taksin around 2321 B.E. (1778), originally called “Wat Waramataram” or “Wat Bang Khun Phrom Nai” and “Wat Ammartayaros”, and found as a royal mandate appointing Phra Athikan Tet as the abbot in 120 R.E. (2444 B.E. (1901)). Later, the temple was renamed to “Wat Mai Amatarot” in 2460 B.E. (1917) and its ubosot and other permanent structures inside were renovated.
Regarding the atmosphere inside Wat Mai Amatarot, although it is not spacious, there are many big trees that help create cool and pleasant feelings. There is also Wat Mai Amatarot School located inside the monastery as well.
Since Wat Mai Amatarot is located next to the school, this place is very vigorous in the morning. There are various stalls set up before and after school. In other time, the temple is regularly quiet and peaceful.
At the front of the temple, ubosot is located. It is very beautiful and clean, showing its good cleaning management system. A lot of people regularly come to worship and pay homage to the Buddha image and other holy things.
